Carlos estevez: Lux arcana
Solo Show - Curated by Claudia Taboada
September 7 - December 14, 2024
Design District
21 NE 39th Street, Miami, FL 33137

Curated by Claudia Taboada, the exhibition visually engages the viewer through the neologisms created by the artist in his sculptural objects, paintings, and drawings. Estevez’s work resonates with themes present in literary and philosophical texts that explore the pursuit of "inner light" or "hidden illumination." References such as Dante Alighieri's "The Divine Comedy," where light guides the protagonist towards the revelation of transcendental truths, and hermetic and alchemical literature, with its emphasis on light and esoteric knowledge, exemplify how light has been symbolically used to explore the unknown and the mysterious.

About the Artist
Carlos Estevez’s work is animated by a deep interest in questions of human spirituality. His stated goal is to use his work to reveal the invisible realm to the spirit that lies hidden beneath the visible world, a process that he refers to as an alchemical, metaphysical transformation of mystery into knowledge. The imagery that populates his paintings, drawings, sculptures, and installations bears a dreamy, child-like quality, with recurring references to marionettes, automatons, fantastical architectures, cosmic geometries, angelic beings, and strange, chimerical creatures. -
