Random Specific is a show about the potential of painting to manipulate perception in order to produce a transcendental non-verbal experience. Two visual narratives explore the power of ambivalence as a tool to create images where the simultaneous, the arbitrary, the sublime, and the ordinary coexist in a way that is both meaningful and trivial.
This bi-personal exhibit covers a selection of recent work by artists Filio Gálvez and Jorge Rios. Galvez’s latest paintings investigate the intervention of digital technologies and their “random” dynamics in the traditional creative process. Rios interrogates throughout the representation of symbolic primordial events, the tensions between Western ideas of art, truth, and myth.
The result is an exhibition that pretends to revise how figurative painting as a genre can subvert pre-established notions of Knowledge in the era of narrative re-enchantment.

About The Artists:
FILIO GALVEZ
Using digital data for aesthetic purposes by either corrupting or physically manipulating electronic devices is a common denominator in Galvez’s practice. The attention to this operative principle, rather than the politics of form, is the basis of the present research. The results are not those from a lab, they are expressly subjective, necessarily subjective - is to lend subjectivity to a platform of communication, play with the nightmare of the self-conscious data.
JORGE RIOS
Jorge Rios is interested in the metaphysical implications of art; his work exists as a reminder of our need for a primordial truth. Rios believes this primordial truth cannot be fully understood through reason or logic, but through a more intuitive, emotional and sensorial process such as the one the aesthetic experience provides.
