The context of her work is influenced by her multi-cultural familial history, personal narratives, and portraiture, whether it be painting.
Chantae Elaine Wright is a mixed media artist. She has been developing a style around figuration that begins with portraits and curated scenes from photo shoots that she’s done or painting alone, but also expanding into an ardent exploration of polymorphism. She uses photographic source material as the seed for her expression using imagery to evoke from. You not only get a brief glimpse into the characters lives, but you also get to reflect on histories that are divergent from societal ideologies. Her work is centered on expanding the narrative of otherness to be more inclusive of everyday lived experience. Her studio process involves the overlapping of acrylic, oil, China marker, pastel, charcoal, spray paint, marker, and ink onto photographed canvas.

While studying, her work has been exhibited in recent exhibitions at The Bonnier Gallery, Ronald W. Reagan Presidential House, and Miami Beach Visual Arts Gallery.
Chantae Elaine Wright graduated from Hunter College and is currently pursuing her Masters of Fine Art from Florida International University where she studied in Italy, as a part of her degree.
Chantae’s work confronts traditional notions of identity and representation. Wrights work revolve around themes of disidentification and polymorphism, i.e., otherness existing outside of social norms, reflecting Wright’s own black, queer, female, Caribbean-American identity and struggles with questioning and pushback. Wright challenges the traditional portrayal of women under the male gaze by taking back the narrative of the female gaze. Through her practice, Wright is committed to expanding the narrative of otherness to be more inclusive of everyday lived experiences, inviting viewers to engage with her work in a way that challenges their assumptions and biases. Wright lives and works in Miami, Florida.
