Excerpt from Haitian Arts:
Seymore Bottex began to paint in 1955, encouraged by his already renowned brother, Jean-Baptiste, and in 1961 joined the Art Center. His work was exhibited at the Issa Gallery in Port-au-Prince in 1969.
Bottex specializes in religious themes, as well as scenes from historical events or Haitian life. Sometimes his work is even considered “humorous”. Within his paintings he often includes a second painting, thus lending a unique dimension to his interior settings. From 1969 to 1980, he exhibited in the United States, England, France and Italy.
