Project Room: Paul Manes

January 7 – March 5, 2011

A selection of small works on canvas by Texan-born artist Paul Manes will be displayed in the project room. The artist’s monochromatic works depict isolated military scenes: a lone soldier walking with a rifle, a tanker, and tiny parachutes raining down from the skies. All fragments of an ever-present yet disconnected reality. Manes’ works are rich in texture and symbolism, while also making literary and art historical references.

Paul Manes lives and works in New York. His work can be found in important private collections and public institutions, such as: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, the Detroit Institute of Arts, and the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art at Cornell University.
