Pan American Art Projects is pleased to announce the solo exhibition of Miami-based artist Ruben Millares. Millares is a multidisciplinary artist, who has been exhibiting since 2005 and is known for his provocative performances, videos and sculpture. This will be his first solo exhibition of two-dimensional works titled Paint by Number. The show comprises large works on canvas and more intimate pieces made on vellum.

For this exhibition, Millares works exclusively with numbers, perhaps a collateral result of also being an accountant. His days are filled with extremely specific numerical figures, which he abstracts by stripping them of their original meaning and re-presenting them in a visual cacophony.  Much of the power lies in the fact that the numbers, although out of context, retain their vibrancy and significance. They identify people, their finances, statistics, passwords, bank accounts and net worth.  Millares presents abstract sums that cannot be decoded. He makes personal something that otherwise could be seen as impersonal and cold, giving meaning to an otherwise abstract idea.

Ruben Millares was born in Miami in 1980. He attended Boston College, in Boston, Massachusetts; and the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. His works have been exhibited in Miami, Basel Switzerland and New York, most recently in Volta 2017, where it was featured. His pieces are part of prestigious collections such as The Margulies Collection, The Hadley Martin Fisher Collection and The Cricket Taplin Collection, among others.
